Chinese authorities locked down after discovering two cases of omicron in Anyang, a city of 5.5 million people about 300 miles outside Beijing. It’s the third Chinese city now in lockdown and comes less than a month before the Beijing Olympics. These lockdowns are tests of China’s zero-COVID policy, which authorities have called a success. Xi’an is a city of 13 million people located in the west of China. Since December 22, the city has been locked down because of a new round of covid outbreak. The Chinese authority claimed victory this week in its fight to contain the community spread. They used a new method called societal zero out that means the government moves all close contacts to the infected people to quarantine centers outside the city, thus those left in the city will be safe and a zero-covid status can be reached.
